Doctor Who: All gone into the world of light

Description

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Ever drifting down the stream –
Lingering in the golden gleam –
Life, what is it but a dream?

----------------------------------
By the way, I shall address a kind-of-issue. Always the Eleven Apologetic, and especially his regeneration episode, which I shall always defend against all grumblers.

Improbable as it may seem, there are some poor, unfortunate souls who didn’t like the Amy cameo. To those people I usually say “How? Have you no soul?!? Also, why?” And then, because I’m me, I say “Hm. Let’s analyse this”.

Is it a hallucination? More into that later. Well,
if it is a vision, a hallucination: Can you control your hallucinations while you are fucking dying? No, scratch that, can you control your hallucinations, period? We know of Amy’s importance to Eleven, “seared forever” etc. Plus, “first face” and all that, he becomes young again, he goes back to the very start. And he had said a proper goodbye to River in "The Name of the Doctor", for instance. He had been able to finally accept her loss, a loss that he had known was coming anyway, even before that, and let her go (Her data ghost fades away at last, happy with her life, the Doctor's love and the goodbye she had so wanted, and when Twelve later meets River, he finally decides -he is able- to go through with their final date). --And oh, still, isn’t it possible that he is thinking of and quoting her here? “I will not forget one line of this”.  Heart

He hadn't been able to do that with Amy, from whom he had been suddenly and violently separated (and for which he also probably felt quite responsible and guilty, like “why didn’t you just leave them in Leadworth, you stupid man, you should have”. Well, it is implied that he went back to talk to little Amy, but
wow would that have been painful, he’s basically carrying out a will and it’s not a proper goodbye in any case.) Notice him keeping her glasses, redecorating the TARDIS, having mentioned River but not the Ponds to Clara. Like I’ve said before, Twelve, now being essentially a different person, casually mentions her in "Deep Breath". Eleven would never have been able to do it. Twelve, while not generally cheerful by a long shot, is able to really move on. He's able to remember and cherish those times, her memory is no longer a sad one. But for that to happen, Eleven needed that goodbye; and I think so did we.

And no, he's not ignoring Clara! Dammit, I’ve heard this one to death! For one, it’s not something one can control, like I said. Plus, e
xcuse him for being a little bit nostalgic, like, I don’t know, Ten was, who took up half the “End of Time” with the David Tennant Parade of Death! (Love ya Ten, don’t worry, you deserved it.) And he did take the time, what little he had left, to call her in the future and reassure her, like “I haven’t regenerated in about 14 centuries, and this is a whole new regeneration cycle, this is gonna fuck me up, please stay with Twelve and help him, because he’ll be grumpy and crazy and scared and frowny and confused and Scottish, still not ginger? Darn”. Man, does he care!

And it helps him too if you’ll notice, he is visibly much more cheerful and at peace with his regeneration when Clara comes to the TARDIS in his final scene (Or it’s the fish custard, man, I don’t know, food helps. He’s like “I’m not even putting the phone back, screw that, I’ma cheer me up with deliciousness OM NOM NOM NOM”). "Goodbye, Clara. Miss ya." He does say goodbye to her –justifiably afraid perhaps that he won’t be able to do it properly later, see “every freaking cell in his body changing and dying etc”- he lets go because she will still have the Doctor. He doesn’t belong there anymore, he lets go of the living. Well, Amy, you know…? (grabs you by the lapels and shakes you) SYMBOLISM!!!! What happened here was beautiful! And I want you to fucking acknowledge it!

And he still does his best to reassure her (they even throw a tear-jerking Futile Hand Reach in there, he wants a hug, but BAM! Capaldi, what can you do) and give an amazing speech (It’s Eleven. Bitch, please), while, need I remind you: all day has been an emotional rollercoaster that has obviously taken its toll on him, he's essentially dying, is certainly in pain, and is having visions.

Oh, on that. Say…
Is it a hallucination? Or perhaps something more? Is it real? Well, you know what I believe. Hey, I’m a sucker for vague, gorgeous spirituality. But each to his own of course, there has been a debate (which has been beautifully called the “Moffat went all Gladiator on our asses, didn’t he” debate in the past) among us overanalyzing geeks.

But I always go with the beautiful and moving “Nolan explains Inception’s ending” analysis anyway:
“The important thing, the real point of the scene — and this is what I tell people — is that Cobb isn’t looking at the top. He’s looking at his kids. He’s left it behind. That’s the emotional significance of the thing. He doesn't care."

In short, look at the pure, wondrous joy on the poor man’s face when he sees her. Look at it.

In other words: Who gives a single, solitary fuck if it is real?

(Preach the truth, Dumbledore, man)

And oh, of course: Yes. They should have had definitely thought of swapping wigs. Dammit, you beautiful idiots.
